The Extraordinaires Design Studio.

When I was in design school,  I took a class on drawing comic books. I am not an illustrator by any means, but I loved how our teacher made us think in a different way. Most people say ‘draw a robot,’ whereas my teacher asked us random questions, wrote our one-word answer on the board and after 3-4 questions we had our robot. “Lauren, your robot is used in the kitchen, has at least one swivel ball and zero eyes. Come up with a story on how it fights the war on ants.” Boom. Story made. Next 4 weeks, we improved on our main character design and by the end had our character, in it’s “natural” environment, a story, and our comic strip. Again, I can’t stress enough how much of an illustrator I am not–but this totally worked and my ‘bot was exceptional! Not trying to toot my own horn, but it was pretty damn good. Only wish I saved that piece…

Now, enter The Extraordinaires Design Studio. It’s my comic book teacher in a box! Not only would I have absolutely loved to have this growing up, but I’m still going to pre-order one no doubt. It’s great for ages 8-108 so I’m going to have to wait a bit for my niece to grow up…maybe until then I’ll babysit some of my friends’ kids. Any takers??
